Best CrossFit gear 2020

CrossFit took the fitness industry by storm more than a decade ago. If someone tries CrossFit, they get hooked, and then they tell all of their friends. You only need one session and you’ll know what we’re talking about. It is unlike any typical gym and that’s the reason it makes it so unique. CrossFit is a lifestyle. It’s a combination of diet, high intensity interval training and a mix of cardio and heavy weights. Last but not least – the sense of community sometimes known as a ‘cult’, is special in all its ways.

Trust us, CrossFit isn’t just for professional athletes seen on TV, everyone can do CrossFit regardless of their age and fitness levels. By the way, what was your New Year’s Resolution? We hope it was CrossFit, because oh man, it’s amazing!

Whether you’re already hooked on a CrossFit routine or you’re considering on starting out, we have put together a list of the most popular CrossFit gear below:

What equipment do I need for CrossFit at home?

It’s easy to see why you would be installing CrossFit equipment in your home or garage. You can go any time you want, lift in your underwear and listen to ‘We are the Champions’ at full blast. No one would judge you, well unless your neighbour decides to pop in for a cuppa unannounced… Let’s dive in and see what equipment you’ll need to start with:

Olympic Bars

There are bars intended for Olympic lifts, studio barbells and also fixed weight barbells. Since CrossFit utilizes the Olympic lifts, we would suggest choosing the Olympic bar. An Olympic bar is heavier and longer compared to the studio bar and is perfect for exercises such as deadlifts, back squat, press, snatch, clean and jerk.

Olympic Discs

There are different kinds of Olympic weight plates you fill find on the market including rubber coated, urethane, cast iron, technique, competition, fractional and bumper plates.

We would suggest choosing bumper plates for the CrossFit training. A bumper plate is a solid rubber weight disc which can be safely used for performing Olympic lifts and can be dropped from height during exercises like snatches and presses.

Kettlebells

A kettlebell is as an essential piece of equipment as an Olympic bar in a CrossFit box. And while it’s hard to get kettlebells wrong, there are a few things to consider before you get hold of this amazing piece of equipment.

We would suggest choosing a competition kettlebell for your CrossFit workouts. The handle and entire construction are excellent and precise made from 100% steel, they are extremely durable and designed to be a lot smoother in usage throughout.

Dumbbells

Dumbbells are incredibly versatile and allow you to perform a huge variety of exercises. You can imitate almost any barbell movement with dumbbells and you can move them anywhere in the gym.

We would suggest getting a decent set of Hex dumbbells with anti – roll design to use at the WOD. The hexagonal design prevents the dumbbells from rolling away when placed on the ground and adds protection as you move around between exercises.

Sandbags

We love sandbags and an odd object training here at FitKit UK. Used correctly, sandbags can be even more challenging than free weights. Sandbags are great for developing a solid core and is an amazing way to build functional strength.

There are many great sandbags out there on the market, here’s our all-time favourite – Jordan Sandbag Pro. Not only it’s highly durable with a strong, tubular shape, it also has extra handles for workout versatility, and no matter how much you use it, it maintains its tubular shape.

Rowing Machines

Slam balls

Slam balls are a perfect addition to the CrossFit boxes as there are so many different ways you can incorporate slam balls into CrossFit training.

Having evolved from medicine balls, slam balls can be used for beginners and professional athletes. Jordan Fitness tough rubber slam balls are great as they have a ultra-durable design with a thicker, stronger outer layer which makes it ideal for slamming, catching and throwing.

Wall balls

Wall balls are awesome! They require a tremendous amount of work and will increase athletic performance much faster than you can imagine. Wall ball exercises are a combination of two movements such as squats and a push press and engage a total of 11 different muscles in your body such as quads, glutes, calves, hamstrings, abs, lower back, chest, front deltoids, back deltoid, biceps and triceps.

You’ll rarely see any CrossFit boxes not having a battle rope. And there’s a reason why! Battle ropes are a secret weapon for torching fat, boosting overall strength and metabolism as well as sculpting muscles.

Plyoboxes

Plyo boxes or jump boxes are great for working on all leg muscles, strengthening core muscles and working on endurance, strength and coordination. It’s also a great tool to burn fat and lose some weight as you can burn up to 1000 calories per hour with this explosive training tool.

Treadmills – Curved

Curved treadmills have generated a lot of attention in fitness industry in recent years. These cardio machines are non-motorised and they let you sprint to achieve maximum capacity.

We would suggest choosing a curved treadmill for  your CrossFit box as it is perfect for HIIT and treadmill running.

The Primal Strength Curved Treadmill is an amazing choice. With its compact design, it has six levels of resistance, meaning athletes can walk or run freely on the treadmill or drive against the handlebars in a full sprint “prowler” position for maximum speed and power output.

TufNuts/Tyres

Tyre flipping excites us here! It’s an amazing strength and conditioning training that engages hamstrings, glutes and back.

Consider obtaining Jordan Fitness TufNut. It has been designed to be more controllable and safer than the traditional tyre. With a hexagonal sturdy steel frame surrounded by super resilient foam and covered with a strong PVC cover, you can use it either indoors or outdoors for a wide range of workouts.
