If you're using the hip adductor machine and wondering what muscles its working, this apparatus focuses on the adductor muscles in the inner thighs that pull the legs inward, including the adductor magnus, adductor longus, adductor brevis, gracilis and pectineus.

Is the hip adductor machine good?

Yes! Hip adductor machine benefits include strengthening your inner thigh muscles and improving stability, particularly in activities that involve bringing the legs together, like running or walking.

How to get on a hip adductor machine

    1. Before you start, adjust the seat height so your knees are at a comfortable 90° angle and ensure the backrest supports your back and adjust if needed.

    2. Choose an appropriate weight for your strength level using the weight stacker selector. Start with a lighter weight, especially if you're new to the machine, and gradually increase as you get stronger.

    3. Sit down and place your legs between the two pads. Adjust the width of the pads to a comfortable starting position where your legs are spread apart by not overstretched. Most machines have a knob or lever to adjust the distance between the pads.

    4. Place your feet flat on the footrests or the floor (depending on the hip adductor machine design). Hold the handles on the sides of the seat or rest your hands on the grips for support.

How to use a hip adductor machine

    1. Once you're in position, you can start the exercise. Bring your legs together by squeezing your inner thigh muscles as you push the pads inwards. Slowly return to the starting position, controlling the movement on the way back. Avoid letting the weight slam down between repetitions to keep tension on the muscles.

    2. Maintain proper posture by keeping your back pressed against the backrest, your core engaged, and your knees aligned with your hips. Exhale as you bring your legs together, and inhale as you return to the starting position.
